A SERU assessment is required for anyone who wants to become a licensed Private Hire driver in London. The purpose of this test is to make sure that everyone who wants to drive a private hire vehicle is qualified. The SERU examination is usually done by taking a computer-based test. The first step to passing this test is registering with TfL. Registration involves a fee of £75,
which includes a number of services such as your own personal online account with your name and address. It is a great way to know how many customers and cars you have been assigned. When you register, you will receive a seru test certificate and card. Your card is needed when you are driving around in a private hire vehicle. Drivers are only allowed to pick up or drop off customers in areas marked with a blue TfL sign.
When you pass the SERU assessment, you will receive a Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC). The CPC has to be renewed every two years, at a cost of £45. This certificate is also included in your registration with TfL.
